In addition to acting as the Senate Majority Whip, Senator Wendell Ford is on the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and is the chairman of both the House Rules and Administration and the Joint Printing Committees. Born in 1924 in Kentucky, Mr. Ford was an insurance executive and Kentucky's governor before being elected to the Senate in 1974.

The Joint Printing Committee controls printing operations for the entire federal government. It is responsible for the Congressional Record and the Congressional Directory. The Committee also oversees peripheral areas of print communications, such as the State Department's purchase of word processors.
